KARACHI, Sept 08, 2014: The President of Pakistan, Mr. Mamnoon Hussain, on Monday urged the private sector to join hands with the government and contribute to the national economic growth by making their products competitive in the global market.
He said this while addressing the 2nd Achievement Awards ceremony organized by the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI). The FPCCI’s Achievement Awards are the highest awards of the private sector which are conferred to those leading organizations and individuals who have made outstanding achievements in the socio-economic sector as well as corporate social responsibilities (CSR) activities.
A number of leading companies received awards in different sectors including trade, industry, investments, CSR, education, research and development, infrastructure, energy, agriculture, information technology, medical and health-care and social welfare services.
The Technical and Vocational Education andTraining (TVET) Reform Support Programme, which is co-funded by the European Union, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Federal Republic of Germany and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, was also given an award for its outstanding contribution in the TVET sector reforms, focusing on the private sector engagement.
President Mamnoon Hussain said the government is moving in the right direction on social and economic fronts. He, however, sought suggestions from the business community on how to effectively maintain law and order as the government realized the value of peace and security for the economic prosperity of the country. He recounted the achievements of the government and said he was confident that through better policies and hard work it would succeed in overcoming all major challenges including the energy crisis, and the law and order situation in the country. Pakistan, in his view, has a very bright future and by 2050 will be 18th largest economy in the world, he said with optimism.
While handing over awards, Mr. Hussain said that FPCCI’s Achievement Awards have been very much recognized and encourages more companies to deliver their best in their fields/ sectors.
Earlier, the President of FPCCI & ECO CCI: Mr. Zakaria Usman, the Vice President of CACCI, Founder & former President of SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and former President of FPCCI : Mr. Tariq Sayed and Dr. Julie Reviere, Programme Director Education GIZ, also spoke on the occasion.
