Youth celebrates completion of vocational training

SIALKOT, Oct 08, 2015: Hundreds of young skilled persons gathered to mark the completion of their vocational training programme, which will enable them to make good leather products and earn decent livelihood, at a ceremony held here on Thursday organized by the Pakistan Gloves Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PGMEA).

As many as 300 young boys and girls were given vocational training under a special project- introducing new technology and techniques in leather products’ design and manufacturing in Punjab. The project was implemented by the (PGMEA with financial support from TVET Reform Support Programme.)

While speaking on the occasion Salman Tariq the project manager highlighted the project outcomes, beneficiaries trained under the project and some success stories were also shared with the audiences.

Mian Muhammad Riaz Chairman Sialkot International Airport Limited,who was the chief guest on the occasion,said Leather production is the second biggest export-oriented manufacturing sector and ranks third in overall exports of Pakistan. The industry has a production capacity of more than 100 million square meters, however actual production is only 60 million square meters. This underutilization of existing capacity is because of a number of factors and one of them is thelacks of skilled workforce for the industry.

Youth celebrates completion of vocational training-2He, however, hoped that with this specific project will have qualified workforce and will help bridge the gap between demand and supply.

Later, the newly skilled persons received certificates for completion of their training courses and displayed their craftsmanship by exhibiting the leather products through different stalls.
