Express News Coverage of the Webinar on Accelerating Pakistan’s Economic Growth through Skilled Labour

The TVET Sector Support Programme which is funded by the European Union, the Federal Republic of Germany and the Royal Norwegian Embassy, organized a webinar on “Accelerating Pakistan’s Economic Growth through Skilled Labour Force” to emphasize on the importance of technical and vocational trainings for the youth to contribute and compete in labour market. The Programme has been commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and is being implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in close collaboration with the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC), provincial Technical Education and Vocational Training Authorities (TEVTAs) and large number of private sector organizations.

The webinar was arranged to aware the masses about the significance of technical education and vocational training for the labour market to nourish in Pakistan. The aim of this webinar was to promulgate that skills development is not only crucial for the youth to become globally competitive, but it is also indispensable for sustained economic and social development of the country.

Sabina Ahmed-Labour Market, TVET and Gender Expert, Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir- Labour Economist & Labour Market Expert and Iris Cordelia Rotzoll- Head of TVET Sector Support Programme were the experts in the webinar panel.

For the tone setting in this webinar, Moderator Sonia Omair-Technical Advisor Communication TVET Sector Support Programme, discussed about the importance of TVET sector and technical and vocational trainings for the people to achieve strong careers in the national and global labour market with esteemed panellists.

Through this webinar, a discussion was promogulated on disparity between labour market demand of trained individuals and education given to the population in the contemporary era which is not according to the needs of the industry. Workforce employability depends on various factors such as: education, managerial skills, adaptation of technology, level of investment and but technical and vocational competencies remains on the top. The workforce must have a high-quality education along with demand-driven skills training.

It was deliberated in the webinar that skills development is crucial for economic and social development of country along with the competitiveness of youth in global market.
