ISLAMABAD: GIZ TVET Reform Support Programme has facilitated its key counterpart, National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC), to initiate labour market information services (LMIS) for better employability of the people coming out of technical education streams.
In this regard, a meeting of key stakeholders was recently held at NAVTTC under the chairmanship of Tariq Shafi Chak, the Executive Director NAVTTC. He gave a brief introduction about his organization and also apprised the participants the significance of LMIS. TVET Reform Support Programme Coordinator Dr. Ute Hoffmann discussed the importance of LMIS for improving the employability of TVET. Director General (S&C) NAVTTC Shahid Ashraf Tarar explained the needs and expectations concerning LMI from NAVTTC’s perspective and the efforts that are being made by the organization at various levels towards this end. He also floated the idea of an end product based on quality, opportunity and projection. Earlier, GIZ’s consultant Jan De Vogd discussed LMI and its current status in Pakistan. He highlighted the issues of institutional nature and the certain restrictions being faced for the successful implementation of LMIS. He defined the scope, roles and the tasks of LMI in NAVTTC in which he shared his views that provinces will build up LMIS units in a harmonized way. The work plan of LMIS cell in NAVTTC was outlined and later on the participants discussed its various aspects in three different groups. |
