Stakeholders review progress of TVET reform

Stakeholders review progress of TVET reformISLAMABAD, Nov 24, 2014: Stakeholders from public and private sectors on Monday commended the progress made in the ongoing technical and vocational education and training (TVET) sector reform and hoped that the results will help to better provide skills according to the market needs.

Heads of different TVET sector organizations, office bearers of a number of employer-led organizations and corporate leaders shared these views at the 5th steering committee meeting of the TVET Reform Support Programme, which is funded by the European Union, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Federal Republic of Germany and the Royal Norwegian Embassy and commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The Executive Director National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) Muhammad Imtiaz Tajwar and Head of Cooperation of the European Union, Bernard Francois, co-chaired the meeting. The main purpose of the meeting was to review progress of the TVET Reform Support Programme, which is being implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in close collaboration with NAVTTC.

The participants of the meeting were briefed about the major achievements of the reform programme by NAVTTC, Technical Education and Vocational Training Authorities (TEVTAs), Employers Federation of Pakistan and Workers Employers Bilateral Council of Pakistan. Some of the key achievements include: drafting the first-ever national TVET Policy, a National Vocational Qualifications Framework (NVQF), revision of apprenticeship law, establishment of National Skills Information System, development of over a 100 Competency Based Training Curricula, launching of first-ever pre-service training programme for the TVET teachers as well as accreditation TVET institutes and programmes across the country.
