Industry-led vocational trainings to benefit youth in Balochistan

QUETTA, March 15, 2018: Active collaboration between industry and training institutes for delivery of vocational training will enable the youth to attain better opportunities to earn decent livelihood.
These remarks were made by the Secretary Planning and Development, Government of Balochistan (GoB), Mr Asfandyar Khan Kakar, while addressing the audience at the launch of the Workplace-based Training in Balochistan at a local hotel.
The ceremony was supported by the TVET Sector Support Programme which is funded by the European Union and the Governments of the Germany and Norway and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in close collaboration with National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC), TEVTAs and a number of organizations from public and private sectors across Pakistan.
The ceremony marked the starting of various vocational training programmes, which focuses on active involvement of industry at various levels of delivery.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Kakar said that GoB is making all out efforts to bring reform in the TVET sector with the support of its development partners. These new trainings would benefit the young men and women of the province to earn better living in various demand driven trades.
Speaking at the ceremony National deputy of TVET Sector Support Programme, Mr Raja Saad Khan opined that this unique and latest training approach will encourage training institutes and enterprises to link theory with the practical training at the workplace. In this regard, both sides can agree on flexible approaches in training delivery, which meet the demands of the involved enterprises, such as cooperative training, on-the-job training and teaching factory.
So far, this new approach of workplace-based training has supported nine training institutes in Balochistan, which will launch workplace-based training courses for 950 trainees in the first quarter of 2018. The institutes cooperate with 66 enterprises together. In January, the WBT has been launched in Karachi with over 355 enterprises.
