STEVTA prepares TVET institutes for national accreditation

KARACHI, Nov 27, 2014: Sindh Techncial EducationAccreditation Workshop and Vocational Training Authority (STEVTA) has launched awareness campgain to sensitize the managments of institutes, imparting technical and vocational education and training (TVET), about the accreditation of their respective insitutes and training programmes at the national level.

In this regards the STEVTA organized three workshops in Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur, where a large number of principals from its vocational training institutes and regional directors participated and got first-hand information about processes and procedures involving the accreditation of TVET insitutes and programmes.

The workshops were facilitated by the TVET Reform Support Programme (TVET-RSP), whcih is funded by the European Union, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Federal Republic of Germany and the Royal Norewgian Embassy and has been commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is implementing this Programme inAccreditation Workshop 2close collaboration with National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC).

Under the TVET RSP, 1000 TVET institutes and programmes will be accrediated by NAVTTC to ensure quality of the training delivery in the TVET sector by Dec 2016. NAVTTC has launched the accrediatation regim for the TVET institutes and programmes as an instrument of assuring quality of institutes/centers and programmes of TVET.

The purpose of accrediation system is to generate public trust in the qualifications provided by technical and vocational education as well as it also makes qualifications nationally and internationally comparable, acceptable and recognizable. Further, it enhance the quality of individual institutes/centers as well as the quality of the (TVET) sector.

In these workshops, International Accreditation expert Mr. Volker Husberg provided comprehensive overview of the accreditation process, criteria, application and internal quality management. Similarly, the participants were also breifed on how the TVET RSP will provide technical support in developing capacity of the institutes for making them ready for the accrediatation. Principals of the participating TVET institutes also presented individually, the performance review of their respective institutes with 2 minutes of video and five minute of power point presentation.

Deputy Director Acccreditation NAVTTC Ms. Shagufta Naz also participated the third workshop held in Sukker Region. She urged the principals that concencerated efforts are required to uplift the quality of the TVET institutes so that certificates issued by these institutes and the graduates are acceptable at national and international level.

The Managing Director STEVTA Mr. Mumtaz Ali Shan, who presided over the workshop in Karachi, gave directions to improve the quality of TVET delivery by enabling the respective TVET institutes to improve upon their deficiencies in terms of quality and minimum requirments of the accrediation.
