Skilled workforce to support economic growth

Skilled workforce to support economic growth1KARACHI: March, 2, 2016: Speakers here on Wednesday emphasized on the importance oftechnical education and vocational training (TVET), which is significant for producing skilled workforce to meet demand of the industry.

Terming the TVET as a pathway towards socio economic development of Pakistan, they opined that skilled and competitive workforce would result in major contribution to national economic growth.This was the crux of a one day National Conference on TVET reform in Pakistanorganized by theNational Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) held at Expo Centre here on Wednesday.

The conference was supported by TVET Reform Support Programme, which is funded by the European Union and governments of Netherlands, Germany and Norway. The Programme is being implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in close collaboration with NAVTTC.

Representatives of private sector, government representatives, thought leaders from different walks of life attended the conference.

Mr. Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema, Executive Director of NAVTTC, while inaugurating the conference said that Pakistan is not only blessed with numerous natural resources but it is also one of the few countries with a growing young population.
“This indeed is a major demographic dividend, which needs to be exploited to its full potentials,” says Mr. Cheema. He elaborated the interventions undertaken to reform the TVET sector in Pakistan, saying “NAVTTC is making headways, but we need strong cooperation from all the stakeholders.”

Mr. Syed Kaleem Makki, Managing Director of Sindh TEVTA, Mr. Hans Ludwig Bruns, Head of Programme, TVET Reform Support Programme and others also spoke at the occasion.Skilled workforce to support economic growth

Presentations on competency based training and cooperative vocational training were also featured in the conference beside screening of video on competency based training and sharing of success stories.
