Sindh TEVTA launches CBT programme

KSindh TEVTA launches CBT programme-1ARACHI, Dec 08, 2015: The Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority on Tuesday launched Competency Based training(CBT) programme, which will ensure greater involvement of the industry in the delivery of vocational training besides helping young boys and girls attain employable skills and decent career.

Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah formally launched the training programme at a ceremony held here on Tuesday. Besides a large number of TVET experts, employers, parliamentarians, hundreds of youth also attended the ceremony. On the sidelines of the ceremony, a Skill Mela was also organized to showcase the skills, which are being imparted in different training institutes of The chief minister in his speech congratulated the Sindh TEVTA for launching the CBT programme and assured his all-out support to promote TVET in Sindh.

Managing Director Sindh TEVTA Syed KalimMakki in his welcome speech highlighted the importance of TVET sector, challenges and opportunities in Sindh province. He said the private sector’s engagement in the planning and delivery of technical education and vocational training (TVET) is a key and that is why the Sindh TEVTA is introducing CBT training courses, which links the training to the market needs.

Sindh TEVTA launches CBT programme-2According to him, 14 new courses under CBT to be launched include beauty therapy, hair stylist, skin care, computer operator, web designing &development, auto-cade, graphic designing, e-commerce, heating &ventilation, air-conditioning,electronics technician, building electrician, solar panel installation, plumber solar panel water heater installation etc.

Competency Based Training (CBT) is one of the innovative approaches to reduce un-employment ratio in the province, these training initiatives which is supported by the National Vocational & Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) through TVET Reform Support Programme.

The introduction of CBT is an important element of the National Skills Strategy (NSS), which is the basis of the ongoing TVET sector reform in Pakistan and being supported by the European Union, the governments of Netherlands, Germany and Norway.

The CBT programme provides the basis for the implementation of the National Vocational Qualifications Framework (NVQF), which the government has launched in March this year at a national level. Under this paradigm shift, the training programs are designed and delivered by adopting a systematic approach, focusing on better employability of the trainees with a strong link to the market.

The duration of these new special training programmes ranges between 6-12 months. Apart from Sindh, the CBT programme is also being implemented in 84TEVT& PVTC institutes across the country.
