Karachi,June 15, 2015: A large number of youth turned up at the job fair organized here o
n Monday and got first-hand information about the job market for the skilled workforce and career opportunities available in different industries.
The job fair was jointly organized by the National Vocational & Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) and the Sindh Technical Education & Vocational Training Authority (STEVTA). The TVET Reform Support Programme, which is funded by the European Union, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Federal Republic of Germany and the Royal Norwegian Embassy supported the event. A good number of TVET providers and employers participated during the job fair and the National Skills Information System (NSIS) was also showcased in a bid to create awareness around this important TVET reform element.
Executive Director NAVTTC Sajjad Saleem Hotiana while addressing the participants said that such job fairs will help both jobless youth as well as industry to hire skilled and potential workers already available in the market.
He explained that a number of initiatives have been undertaken by the NAVTTC under TVET Reform Support Programme to improve quality and relevance of the TVET system and termed the NSIS as a one window solution for the industrialists and skilled workers to find jobs and recruit skilled workers online on http://skillingpakistan.org website.
The job fair featured organizations from academic, industrial, developmental sector. Around 50 local and multinational companies set up their stalls to guide the TVET graduates and students about the future opportunities in the job market and TVET sector.In order to facilitate visitors from all segments of the society, a free entry was announced. The job fair is poised to serve as a cost-effective way for the organizations to directly interact with prospective candidates and recruit the required talent without going through the hassle of traditional hiring practices.
TEVTA institutes, industry partners, prominent training institutes from the public sector set up their stalls and products of the trainees on this occasion. While some of the stalls also had the success stories from a number of TEVTA institutes and training programmes. Thousands of the students and graduates of TVET education related and from basic stream of education visited the stalls and got information about available job opportunities in the industries and institutions.
He further said that these job fairs not only provides a platform to employers and job workers seekers but also the government, TVET planners and donors can benefit from the statistical information on skills market for informed planning and decision making in TVET sector.
