GB works out action plan for technical and vocational training

ISLAMABAD: TVET Reform Support Programme in collaboration with National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) – Gilgit Baltistan organized a two days workshop for key stakeholders to prepare an action plan for the province in line with the National Skills Strategy (NSS).

The workshop, held on Feb 2nd, was attended by Director NAVTTC Gilgit Baltistan Attaullah Baig, representatives from different NGOs and experts involved in the delivery of technical and vocational training. The Gilgit Baltistan has a unique service delivery structure, as the private sector is at the forefront, while the public sector is yet to develop its infrastructure in this sector.

The participants emphasised the fact that the public sector has nominal presence in the service delivery of technical and vocational training in Gilgit Baltistan; however, there is still a need for coordinated efforts and localised NSS plan can be an effective instrument for this purpose.

The participants of the workshop, which was facilitated by international experts, discussed at length the issues and potential for a demand-driven technical and vocational training system for the province. Recommendations, worked out in the workshop, will be further deliberated and fine tuned in the core committee, consisting of government officials, experts and the local business community. The action plan will be submitted to the provincial government for incorporating it into its annual development plans.
