Experts urge media to promote TVET

Experts urge media to promote TVET-1QUETA, Dec 15, 2015: Experts at an orientation session have urged the media to create awareness about the technical and vocational education and training (TVET) so that millions of jobless youth can acquire employable skills and shape their future. This was the crux of a day-long sensitization session jointlyorganized by the Balochistan Technical Education & Vocational Training Authority (BTEVTA) and the National Vocational & Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) here on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Zamran Marri, Director BTEVTA, said that 58 percent of population of Balochistan consists of youth. He said that it is high time that this huge youth bulge is equipped with employable skills. He asked the media persons to play their active role in attracting the youth towards TVET by giving them awareness about different opportunities available for them. Mr. Marri further informed the audience that the BTEVTA is initiating Competency Based training (CBT) courses, which will ensure greater involvement of the industry in the delivery of vocational training besides helping young boys and girls attain employable skills and decent career.These courses will be offered free of cost to male and female youth at six selected BTEVTA institutes across the province.

Experts urge media to promote TVET-2The CBT is one of the innovative approaches to reduce un-employment ratio in the province and is supported by the NAVTTC through the TVET Reform Support Programme, said Mr. Abdul Rauf Baloch, Regional Director NAVTTC.

He further said that the introduction of CBT is an important element of the National Skills Strategy (NSS), which is the basis of the ongoing TVET sector reform in Pakistan and being supported by the European Union, the governments of Netherlands, Germany and Norway. He also apprised the audience about the new initiatives of National Vocational and Technical Training Commission including National Vocational Qualification Framework, National TVET Policy, accreditation of TVET institutes etc.

Additional Secretary Education, Government of Balochistan,Hayat Kakar,also spoke on the occasion.
