15 TVET institutes accredited

ISLAMABAD, Feb 14, 2014: National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) has awarded accreditation to 15 institutes, imparting technical education and vocational training (TVET) in the public and private sector.

A decision to award accredit these TVET institutes was taken by the TVET Accreditation and Quality Evaluation Committee (TA&QEC) held here the other day.

NAVTTC Director General Adeela Bukhari chaired the meeting, while members from all the provincial Technical Education and Vocational Training Authorities (TEVTAs), Boards of Technical Education (BTEs), Trade Testing Boards (TTBs), FPCCI, All Pakistan Business Forum (APBF), Employers Federation of Pakistan (EFP),National Institute of Science and Technical Education (NISTE) Islamabad, Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC) and National Training Bureau (NTB) participated in the session.

Accreditation of the TVET institutes have been introduced for the first time in Pakistan as a measure to improve quality of the training delivery under TVET Reform Support Programme, which is co-funded by the European Union, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Federal Republic of Germany and being implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in collaboration with NAVTTC.

The TA&QEC evaluated 18 applications from the TVET institutes, out of which 15 institutes in 63 different demand driven trades were awarded the accreditation, while the remaining three institutes will go through second round of assessment.

The newly accredited institutes include SMA Rizvi Textile Institute Karachi, Pakistan Readymade Garments Technical Training Institute Karachi, Government College of Technology Peshawar, Multan Technical Education Centre Multan Cantt, Rangers Institute of Technical Education (RITE)Rahim Yar Khan, Pakistan Readymade Garments Technical Training Institute Lahore, PHMA- Institute of Knitwear Technology Karachi, Descon Technical Institute Lahore, Government Technical Training Institute Mirpur AJ&K, Government College of Technology Rawlakot AJ&K, Vocational Training Center (Female) Kotli AJ&K, Lahore Institute of Technical Education (LITE) Lahore, Government Technical Training Institute, Gulberg-11, Lahore, Pakistan Knitwear Training Institute New Garden Town Lahore and Fauji Foundation Technical Training Centre (TTC) Rawalpindi.

With this fresh accreditation of 15 TVET institutes, total number of accredited institutes has reached to 38 with 109 trades.
